Novak Djokovic Keeping His Options Open for Future Olympics

Novak Djokovic apparently has no intention of putting his racket in the corner just yet.

At a press conference in Indian Wells on Thursday, the 36-year-old Serb did not even rule out the possibility that he could still take part in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Djokovic would be 41 at this point. “Everything is possible, I just don’t know how many cards I still have in my hand,” said Djokovic with a smile.

“It’s still very far away to think about the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, but the thought of it obviously excites me. I would like to play it, but I can’t really commit to it yet,” added the world number one, who is due to the corona pandemic and his refusal to be vaccinated will compete in Indian Wells for the first time in five years.

The 2024 Olympics at Roland Garros

Djokovic will check “year after year” how his body and his motivation are doing. “I’m still number one, so at the moment I feel like I want to keep going and keep trying to make more history.”

This year’s Olympics are something special for the tennis stars, as the medals will be played on the Roland Garros facility. Olympic champion Alexander Zverev also sees it that way.

“This is the biggest event of this year. I think for a lot of players,” said the 26-year-old German in Indian Wells. “Carlos Alcaraz also said he would rather win the Olympic Games than win a Grand Slam this year. I believe him straight away.”

Zverev won gold in Tokyo in 2021. After his serious injury at the 2022 French Open, he reached the semifinals at this year’s Australian Open.
