Djokovic emotional: “Love you”

Ivanisevic – Wimbledon winner in 2001 – had trained Djokovic since 2019 and, among other things, improved his serve game. “In fact, we not only provided the serve, but also lots of laughter, fun, number 1 rankings, record-breaking performances and twelve more Grand Slams (and a few finals). Did I mention a bit of drama too?” wrote Djokovic with a smiling smiley. A substantive mistake that Djokovic made: He wrote about a collaboration since 2018 and 12 joint Grand Slam titles – in fact there were nine since Wimbledon 2019, when Ivanisevic joined.

Djokovic initially left it open whether and how he wanted to fill the now vacant position in his coaching team. He ended his message by saying, “Sefinjo, thank you for everything my friend. Love you.”

The 36-year-old recently decided not to take part in the ATP Masters tournament in Miami. “At this stage of my career, I have to balance my private and professional plans,” he explained his decision to X.

There had also been some difficulties with the Grand Slam record winner before. In Indian Wells he failed sensationally against the Italian Luca Nardi and even insulted the referee. At the Australian Open he was eliminated in the semifinals against eventual winner Jannik Sinner.

Djokovic will now prepare for the clay court season. The French Open will take place in Paris from May 26th to June 9th.

Reunion with Becker?

Between 2013 and 2016, German tennis legend Boris Becker trained the Serb and led him to six Grand Slam titles. The 56-year-old recently looked after the Dane Holger Rune before the collaboration was unexpectedly ended in February. Since then, Becker has not trained anyone.

Rumors about a possible reunion with Djokovic have arisen again and again in recent years, but have never been confirmed or even come true. The two are said to continue to have a good relationship, which Becker confirmed several times.
