Nine people have been arrested after an attack on a police station in the Paris suburb of La Courneuve, which took place late Sunday night after clashes between youths and police forces. The agency brought the information Reuters referring to the head of the Paris police.
The clashes followed the death of a youth who failed to stop his motorbike after police ordered him to do so last week. “There have been nine arrests, which is not insignificant,” Laurent Nunez told TF1 television on Monday. “Police reinforcements quickly restored order and security,” he added. Other circumstances of the case have not yet been disclosed.
Security issues are extremely important to the French authorities and are a big topic with the upcoming Olympic Games in the country’s capital. Some venues for the Paris Olympics were vandalized during the summer 2023 riots sparked by the fatal police shooting of a teenager of North African descent.
