Nicklas Bendtner: From Footballer to TV Expert – The Controversial Journey

Nicklas Bendtner (36) always made headlines off the pitch anyway.

In this respect, the ex-Wolfsburg player’s new job (47 competitive games) seems tailor-made. Bendtner becomes a TV expert at the Danish broadcaster TV2.

The former striker will be at the microphone for the first time next week. The Danish national team will face Switzerland (March 23) and the Faroe Islands (March 26) in two friendly matches.

Bendtner then appears in a new look. The former goalscorer now wears long hair and unusual hats. He regularly posts snapshots on Instagram.

Bendtner has been appearing in front of the camera since last year. He has his own comedy series on the Prime Video streaming service. “Nicklas Pranker” is the title. The word “prank” comes from English and means to play tricks.

Now also as a serious football expert. Bendtner about his new commitment: “I’m looking forward to being able to contribute my perspective and my experiences.”

Relatively modest for the ex-professional who goes by the nickname “Lord”…

Bendtner made 81 international appearances for Denmark during his active career and played for, among others, Arsenal, Juventus, Wolfsburg and, in his hometown, FC Copenhagen.

The striker was remembered less for his goals than for his antics off the pitch. In 2009, for example, the “Lord” was photographed leaving a nightclub with his pants down – just before Arsenal’s Champions League semi-final against Manchester United (1:3).

In 2012, Bendtner was banned for one game by UEFA because he exposed his underwear with the name of a betting provider while celebrating a goal. A year later, his national team took him out of traffic because he was caught driving with a blood alcohol level of 1.5.

His time in Wolfsburg wasn’t quiet either. The striker falls out with coach Dieter Hecking, is regularly late for training and, on top of that, drives through VW City in his Mercedes.

Almost a year before the end of his contract, VfL threw him out.

The last big scandal came in 2018: Bendtner argued with a taxi driver and broke his jaw. The “Lord” is sentenced to 50 days in prison and must wear an electronic ankle bracelet during this time.
