NFL Investigating Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles for Potential Violations in Player Negotiations

The NFL has opened an investigation into whether the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles violated legal negotiation rules, a league spokesperson said Thursday.

The Falcons agreed to a contract with quarterback Kirk Cousins shortly after teams were allowed to begin negotiating with unrestricted free agents on Monday.

The Eagles also quickly reached a deal with running back Saquon Barkley shortly after the trading period opened at noon.

Penn State coach James Franklin told a reporter that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman spoke to Barkley and told him about the bond between Eagles fans and Nittany Lions fans.

Teams were allowed to speak directly with agents during a 52-hour trading window, but could not speak to a player unless he did not have an agent and was representing himself.

The Eagles have denied the allegations.

In the case of Atlanta, Cousins said Wednesday, “There are great people here. And it’s not just the football team. I mean, I look at the support staff. There were meetings, calls with the head of training, with the public relations person. I think we have good people here. And it’s exciting to be a part of it. »

Cousins was not allowed to speak to anyone until 4 p.m. Wednesday.
