New Multi-Sports Hall Inaugurated at Roland-Garros with Plans for Tennis Expansion

White lectern, blue stage, microphone, scissors and tricolor ribbon, it was inauguration day on the heights of Roland-Garros where the first magistrate of the city of the Archangel, Frédéric Masquelier, was for the occasion accompanied by the president of the Var department, Jean-Louis Masson.

After the Monge-Roustan sports center was made available to the Raphaëlois, this time it was the multisports hall at Roland-Garros which was the subject of all the attention.

This new structure, revised and corrected in place of the old covered tennis courts, has been converted into a multidisciplinary play area essentially designed for the practice of team sports such as basketball, handball, volleyball. , indoor football but also badminton. All carried out for a budget of 86,000 euros excluding tax, 80% of which was financed by the Var department.

“At the risk of making enemies, Saint-Raphaël is one of the most active and sporty towns in the Var…”, welcomed Jean-Louis Masson before confirming all the support that the department provides for the development of sport in all Var municipalities. as such, the plan concerning the department’s sports policy for the years 2024 – 2028 will be presented at the next plenary assembly…”

Priority to colleges and recreational centers

For his part, Frédéric Masquelier first warmly thanked his distinguished guest before planning the upcoming repair of the roof of this new Roland-Garros sports hall…

Also an opportunity for the mayor to send a few messages. And in particular for real estate developers who did not wait for this inauguration to take a close look at this site with breathtaking views of the Great Blue: “If a sports field disappears, there must necessarily be compensation! Indeed, there is a beautiful view from here, but it is certainly not a real estate transaction. Between sports and leisure, Saint-Raphaël is an attractive city and must remain so. This site fully reaffirms this status.”

With nearly a third of the Raphaël population registered in one of the City’s 128 associations, this room will welcome a predominantly young audience with priority given to students from the Estérel and Stanislas colleges during school time but also to young shoots from air centers. Of course, Raphaël sports associations, such as the currently booming basketball club, will also be able to operate in this brand new space. More than 550 people expected each week.

Frédéric Masquelier also expressed his desire to make these grounds accessible to all.

See you on fire… May 10

“Especially when they are closed on weekends or during school holidays. There is nothing more frustrating than not being able to practice your favorite sport when right next door the gym is closed. Like the sports arena of Monge-Roustan, I hope that these sports infrastructures remain open to as many people as possible, he announces before launching an appeal for the younger generation. I remind you that in Saint-Raphaël, the first license is free for young people.” Finally, in this Olympic year, Frédéric Masquelier and Jean-Louis Masson have every chance of meeting again, on May 10 in Saint-Raphaël, on the occasion of the passing of the Olympic flame.

And for good reason…

“May 10 will mark the start of the passage of the Olympic flame across the country and Saint-Raphaël will indeed be the first city in France from which this Olympic torch will leave. It is worth seeing at least once in your life …”

Citius, altius, fortius or for all those who haven’t studied Latin: faster, higher, stronger!

Tennis side

The inauguration of this sports hall is part of an expanded sports project with the consolidation of the tennis offer on the Roland-Garros site.

Thus, work on this new complex dedicated to the little yellow ball will begin at the end of March. The end of the project is scheduled for the end of November 2024.

A budget of around 5 million euros will thus be released to build around the central building; eight outdoor tennis courts, three indoor courts to which will be added four padel courts.

Still with the same sea view, the new Roland-Garros complex already promises to be attractive in more than one way…
