This person revealed the information on condition of anonymity on Sunday because the transaction will not be made official until the official start of the new NFL year on Wednesday and after a physical examination.
The trade will allow Jones to play for his hometown team and spice up the race for the backup role behind starter Trevor Lawrence.
Jones will compete with C. J. Beathard in the reserve role. He will be completing the final year of his rookie contract this year and will have an impact of US$4.96 million on the Jaguars’ payroll.
Jones, who was the 15th selection in the 2021 draft, saw his performance drop dramatically last season, being replaced by Bailey Zappe. He was 2-9 in 11 starts and threw for 2,120 yards, 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
In his career, he has thrown 46 touchdown passes and suffered 36 interceptions in three campaigns.
