NBA Star Ben Simmons’ Season Cut Short by Back Injury: What’s Next?

From bad to worse for Ben Simmons. First the knockout, then the return and the new knockout. This time definitive. THE Brooklyn Nets have officially announced that the guard will be forced to miss out on the rest of the season due to the back injury that had already kept him away from the parquet for ten weeks.

“Ben Simmons will remain out for the remainder of the season while he consults with specialists and explores treatment options for the nerve disorder in his lower back. Simmons, along with the Nets’ medical staff, is currently in discussions with numerous experts to determine the course of action that will provide him with the best opportunity for long-term sustainable health.”

Il nerve impingement to the lower back limited Simmons to sole 15 games this season for the Nets, now 11th in the Eastern Conference with a 25-37 record. After the first 6 races of the season he was forced to give up the next 38. A problem that the 27-year-old is unfortunately used to.

He hasn’t played more than 58 games in a season since 2018-19. Simmons was injured for much of his time in the league. Ever since the Philadelphia 76ers selected him as the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. He missed his entire rookie season due to a foot injury. He was then sidelined for the entire 2021-22 season due to a back injury that came in the middle of a contract dispute with the 76ers. And now out again. His current contract, which will earn him 40.3 million dollars in 2024-25, it will expire after next season. And from there the prospect of a rich new long-term contract is difficult to predict.
