Otto Porter Jr. (30) from the Utah Jazz surprisingly announced the end of his career on Monday – in the middle of the season. The 30-year-old forward released his decision in a moving statement on the NBA team’s official website.
Porter Jr.: “Over the last 11 years I have had the opportunity to fulfill my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA. That dream was crowned by winning an NBA championship! Unfortunately, my body does not allow me to perform at the level I expect of myself and I have therefore decided to retire.”

Porter Jr. moved from the Toronto Raptors to the Utah Jazz in a trade in February. Due to multiple foot injuries, the forward only played a total of 23 games for the Raptors over the last two seasons.
The 30-year-old has not played a single game for the Jazz since his trade in February. Then on Monday, Porter Jr. was released by the Utah Jazz. Because of the late timing, he was unable to join any other team for the playoffs.

Porter Jr. spent most of his career with the Washington Wizards, who selected him third overall in the 2013 NBA draft. There he played 384 games in six years and averaged 10.7 points, 5 rebounds and 1.4 assists. In 2019 we went to the Chicago Bulls. However, he only made 54 appearances in three seasons before moving to the Orlando Magic.
In August 2021, Porter Jr. joined the Golden State Warriors and was instrumental in winning the NBA championship in the 2021-22 season. His greatest appearances came at the 2022 NBA Finals, when he slipped into the starting lineup for the three games against the Boston Celtics.
With the retirement announcement, Porter Jr. ends his NBA career after nearly 11 years, 527 games and a championship ring with the Warriors.
