– Without playing, Denver regained first place in the Western Conference. The Thunder actually lost in Milwaukee, where the Bucks signed what looks like a benchmark match, with their best possible team aligned and a very solid performance. Certainly, OKC had its worst offensive game (lowest number of points scored + worst skill percentage), but it’s also because Milwaukee did the job in this sense. Giannis Antetokounmpo (30 pts, 19 rebounds) and Chris Middleton, author of a triple-double (11 pts, 10 rebounds, 10 asts) launched the hostilities and allowed their team to make the match easy and not have to pull on the rope. Opposite, the metronome Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was limited to 12 points in 30 minutes, which has become extremely rare for him.

– Cleveland for its part let Milwaukee slip away in the race for 2nd place. The Cavs took a terrible lead in Miami, which had a lead of up to 45 points with 7 players at 10 points or more and the possibility of quickly resting the executives. It’s been more than 10 years since the Heat, rather accustomed to close matches, had not had such an advantage in a match. The Cavs are now even under threat from the Knicks and the Magic, both back only one step away from 3rd place in the East.

– The fight for 4th place in the West is more exciting than ever. As we began to sense recently, the Clippers are sticking their tongues out and are only one victory ahead of the Pelicans:

  • The Clippers were surprised at home by Philadelphia. Not effective in defense (121 pts conceded), dull in attack, Ty Lue’s players nevertheless had their Big Three at their disposal but quickly folded under the blows of Tobias Harris (24 pts), Tyrese Maxey (24 pts) and, more surprisingly, Cam Payne (23 pts off the bench)
  • NOLA put the pressure on at the start of the evening by taming the Pistons with a Zion Williamson gala performance: 36 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Even without Brandon Ingram and with Trey Murphy at 1/12, the Pelicans managed their business and continued their spectacular offensive to gain home court advantage.

– The Lakers now have a three-win lead over the Warriors and a solid chance of receiving in the first game of the play-in. The Californians won a champagne match against the Pacers, where the concept of defense was rather vague. The Lakers ended up winning by finishing with their highest point total in a game in 37 years. They still scared themselves a little, since they led by 17 points at the start of the 4th quarter, before seeing Indiana get back to 3 points thanks to a 46-point QT. Anthony Davis (36 pts, 16 rebounds), LeBron James (26 pts, 10 asts), Spencer Dinwiddie (26 pts), author of his best match since his arrival, and Austin Reaves (25 pts) allowed the Lakers to sign a third consecutive victory, while being the first quartet in more than 3 years to finish with 25 pts or more .

– On the other hand, it smells a lot less good for the Warriors, who feel the breath of the Rockets on their necks a little more each evening. From their sofa, the Texans saw Golden State lose to the Wolves. The Dubs were beaten by their own play, Minnesota displaying a 3-point skill quite rare for them (21/40, 52%), including Naz Reid on fire in the exercise (6/8 at 3 pts). Rudy Gobert finished with a double-double (17 pts, 12 rebounds) and Anthony Edwards (23 pts) was clutch on the line, while Stephen Curry (31 pts) missed a few opportunities to equalize in money time.

The Warriors are only one victory ahead of the Rockets with 12 games remaining and Houston is on 8 wins in a row.
