NBA Recap: Golden State Ends Milwaukee’s Winning Streak, Lakers Fall at Home, OKC Returns to the Top

Golden State stops Milwaukee’s streak of six wins in a row, led by Steph Curry’s 29 points and the energy of the bench. The Lakers lose at home to Sacramento (44 for De’Aaron Fox) and miss an opportunity to move up the table despite LeBron James’ 31. OKC passes to Portland and returns to the top of the Western Conference, the Clippers win in Houston despite Sengun’s triple double.

WASHINGTON WIZARDS – ORLANDO MAGIC 109-119

Fifth consecutive success and eighth in the last nine for the Magic, who are making the best use of the least complicated calendar in the entire NBA. After beating Brooklyn, Utah, Detroit and Charlotte, Orlando also beats Washington but needs to come back from -21 in the second quarter, thanks to 28 points from Franz Wagner and 25 from Paolo Banchero. For the Wizards, however, it is the 16th consecutive defeat, tying the worst in the history of the franchise suffered in 2009-10.

HOUSTON ROCKETS – LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS 116-122

The Clippers also need to come back from a 20 point deficit, putting Houston ahead with just 3 minutes to go and thanking their stars. The great former evening player James Harden scores 7 of his 21 points (the same as those of Paul George) in the fourth period, but it is Kawhi Leonard’s 28 that make the difference in overcoming a double-digit deficit in the last 12 minutes, during which the Clippers score 42 points sealing a game in crescendo (19 points in the first, 25 in the second and 36 in the third).

PHILADELPHIA 76ERS-MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES 109-115

In a match between two teams plagued by injuries, the Grizzlies brought home the victory, thanking the most talented player still standing. In fact, Jaren Jackson Jr. made the difference with 30 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocks, also drawing Jake LaRavia’s double double (19 points and 13 rebounds) to finally win a point-to-point match. It was an 11-0 run at the end that condemned the Sixers without Maxey, Embiid and Melton, beaten 16-34 in the fourth quarter.

ATLANTA HAWKS – CLEVELAND CAVALIERS 112-101

In an evening of completed comebacks, the Cavs’ one from -21 was not sealed by a victory, collapsing in the fourth quarter lost 25-12 in the second evening of a back-to-back after the incredible success from -22 over Boston. Saddiq Bey scored 10 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter and Bogdan Bogdanovic equalized his scoreboard, also overcoming the sprained ankle suffered by Jalen Johnson. For the guests – without three starters like Mitchell, Strus and Mobley – Jarrett Allen’s double double of 18+19 was not enough.

UTAH JAZZ – CHICAGO BULLS 117-119

DeMar DeRozan is once again decisive for the Bulls, scoring 29 points including the passing basket in the last minute of the game to win Salt Lake City. Coby White continues his season as a Most Improved Player candidate by scoring 25 with seven 3-pointers, helping the Bulls win their fourth in a row. John Collins is the best of the Jazz with 25 and 14, coming into contact with a Bulls assistant coach and starting a brawl towards the end of the match.

PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS – OKC THUNDER 120-128

After the KO suffered in Los Angeles, the Thunder immediately get back on track and regain Minnesota at the top of the Western Conference. The guests remained ahead throughout the match but without ever really running away, needing the play of their best players to definitively get the better of the Blazers’ six players in double figures, led by Anfernee Simons’ 29 and Jerami Grant’s 20 despite the absences of Brogdon, Ayton, Sharpe and Scoot Henderson.

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS – MILWAUKEE BUCKS 125-90

Great victory for the Warriors, who interrupted the Bucks’ streak of six consecutive victories despite the return to the field of Giannis Antetokounmpo, the best of his team with 23 points ahead of the 20 of Lillard and Portis. However, the hosts took control of the match already in the first quarter and never looked back, led by Steph Curry’s 29 points, Jonathan Kuminga’s 20 and the energy of Trayce Jackson’s 15 with 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. LOS ANGELES LAKERS – SACRAMENTO KINGS 120-130

The Lakers missed a golden opportunity to definitively relaunch themselves in the standings and climb back towards seventh place. LeBron James scores 31 points with 13 assists and Rui Hachimura adds 29 in a quintet all in double figures, but after reaching +19 in the first quarter the Lakers shut down completely, squandering their entire lead already halfway through the second quarter (lost 44 -20). Even down by 22, the yellow and purple came close to -10 at the end but without really worrying the excellent Kings.
