NBA Champion Otto Porter Jr. Retires Midseason Due to Physical Issues

NBA star retires midseason

NBA champion Otto Porter Jr. surprisingly announced the end of his basketball career on Monday. Curious: The forward from the Utah Jazz is resigning in the middle of the current season.

In an emotional statement on the club’s website, he cited his physical problems as the reason for the decision: “Unfortunately, my body does not allow me to play at the level that I expect of myself and I have therefore decided to retire to withdraw.”

Shortly before, Porter Jr. had been released by the Utah Jazz. Due to his numerous injuries, he has not played a single game for the Salt Lake City team since arriving via trade in February.

Due to the late timing of his dismissal, the American was no longer able to join any other team to play in the playoffs. This leads to the strange situation that Porter Jr. hangs up his jersey before the end of the season.

“Crowned!” NBA star calls career highlight

The 30-year-old celebrated his greatest career success with the Golden State Warriors. He won the title with the team in 2022 and was even part of the starting five against the Boston Celtics in Games 4-6.

The 2.03 meter man also addressed this highlight in his resignation statement: “In the last 11 years I had the chance to realize my lifelong dream and play in the NBA. That dream was crowned by winning an NBA championship!”

In total, Porter Jr. played 577 games in the NBA, spending the longest time with the Washington Wizards (six years). He also wore the jersey of the Chicago Bulls, Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors throughout his career.

He played for the latter team in the last two years before moving to Utah, but only played 23 games due to injury.
