Navigating the Play-Off Path: Marie-Paule Foppossi Discusses TGB’s End of Season Journey

the essential As the end of the championship approaches, Marie-Paule Foppossi talks about the potential opponent in the play-off, the new recruit and her adventure which is coming to an end with the TGB.

You are back from injury. How do you feel ?

I feel better. As we are at the end of the season, there is a lot of fatigue, so the body tends to give up more easily. So, we manage as best we can. There, I feel good and I am 100%

Qualification for the play-offs has been validated, the objective has been achieved, is it satisfying for the group?

We are very happy. We knew that it also depended on the results of the other teams. There is a feeling of relief, of accomplishment. We know that during the play-offs anything can happen so now it’s about going as far as possible.

What is the goal of these last three matches of the season given that qualification for the play-offs is validated?

There is the ambition to move up to fifth place. Obviously we will try to finish in the best possible place, the highest. This match against Montpellier is doubly more important given that it is Montpellier which is fifth and ahead of us in the standings. If we manage to continue afterwards in Angers we can put ourselves in a very good position for the play-offs.

Are you starting to get into the calculations of who to play in the first round?

Our season was so complicated this year with everything we went through. Whoever the opponent is, we will play to win. It could be either Lyon or Basket Landes and these are teams that we managed to hold on to during the season so we know that it is doable.

If you had the chance to choose, would you choose Lyon or Basket Landes?

This is a bit of a trick question. I think I will choose Basket Landes based on the history, to do a revenge of the revenge (laughs). Afterwards, on the other hand, playing Lyon and its armada also makes you want it. We were really close to beating them at home so I think it would also be a very good challenge for a first round of play-offs.

You will leave the TGB at the end of the season. You will not have a trophy with the Coupe de France. What are your goals before joining your new club?

I want to leave the image of a player who was committed. I want to leave the club in a good dynamic with the EuroCup next season. I want the club to evolve and reach the top of the championship. With Carla (Leite, Editor’s note) we wanted to finish with a title and the Coupe de France was the perfect opportunity. With the scenario and everything that happened, it was difficult to manage so now the idea is to spend as many rounds as possible in the play-offs, shake up the established order a little.

There is a new recruit at TGB position 4. What does this change for you, have you discussed it with the coach?

François told me that with Mailis (Pokk, Editor’s note) and Jess-Mine (Zodia, Editor’s note) who is starting to gain more and more importance, he would like to push me more towards position 3 while keeping the possibility of playing position 4. That suits me because I prefer position 3 (laughs). The fact that it is there will bring us more stability in the domestic sector. There will be more rotation so there will be more opportunity to give your all. It brings back experience and quality.
