Balance: The overall balance of over 1,000 DFB games includes 581 wins, 209 draws and 219 defeats. The goal difference is 2265:1193. In the current European Championship season there were three wins, one draw and three defeats.
National coach: Julian Nagelsmann has slightly corrected his false start as national coach with success in France. The successful 3-1 debut in October against the USA and the 2-2 against Mexico was followed by a 2-3 in Berlin against Turkey and a 0-2 in Vienna against Austria in November. After the 2-0 win in Lyon, Nagelsmann’s record before the showdown with the Dutch is now balanced: two wins, one draw, two defeats.
Netherlands: For the 46th time there will be a neighborhood duel in Frankfurt. Germany leads with 16:12 wins. 17 games ended in a draw. The DFB team led by captain Franz Beckenbauer won the most important game in the 1974 World Cup final in Munich 2-1 against the Dutch led by Johan Cruyff. Only Thomas Müller (127), Toni Kroos (107) and Joshua Kimmich (83) have made more appearances in the DFB squad than the 33-year-old FC Barcelona midfielder. Lothar Matthäus is the record national player with 150 international matches.
Debutants: The Stuttgart trio Maximilian Mittelstädt, Waldemar Anton and Deniz Undav (all 27) made their first appearance in the national team against France. Hoffenheim’s Maximilian Beier (21) could follow suit against the Netherlands. Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann (33) from TSG Hoffenheim, who has been in the squad several times, is also waiting for his international debut. However, his chances are also very slim on Tuesday in Frankfurt.
Goal scorers: Thomas Müller is the most successful scorer in the DFB squad with 45 goals.
