National: Red Star settles for a draw (1-1) in front of Nancy

A slight loss of speed. After winning its first 11 matches at home, the Red Star conceded this Friday evening at the Bauer stadium its second draw in a row against Nancy (1-1), two weeks after that against Châteauroux (0-0). For the first time this season, the Seine-Saint-Denis club has only recorded one success in its last 4 matches (one victory and 3 draws). But nothing serious.

Four days after their success in Villefranche, the balance sheet for the week remains positive after this draw (1-1) against Nancy at the end of a spectacular match. With 8 days remaining, Red Star has a cushion of eight lengths on Niort (2nd, who will play Monday at Versailles) and nine on Martigues (3rd), knowing that the first two will reach L2 in May. It would take a cataclysm for Red Star not to be promoted to the L1 antechamber next year.

After a first leg marked by racist behavior from part of the Nancy public towards three Red Star players, the two teams met again for this clash of the 26th day. Author of a spectacular recovery in the ranking (4th) thanks to a great start to 2024 (6 victories), Nancy poses some difficulties in the game at the start of the match for the Audoniens. But the latter get the first chances.

First it was Durand, ideally placed, who missed his duel in front of Sourzac (12th) then a personal exploit from Ifnaoui forced the Nancy goalkeeper to pull out all the stops (21st). The visitors then appear threatening. Former Lille striker Lenny Nangis presents himself alone against Beunardeau but the Audonian goalkeeper saves his team with a superb reflex (29th).

“For us, the lights are always green for the climb”

Returning from the locker room, Benali took advantage of a foul by Bussmann on Ifnaoui in the area, to open the score on a penalty (1-0, 49th) and score his 8th goal of the season (6th National scorer). A short-lived lead for Red Star. A few minutes later, Nonnenmacher saw his long shot hit Beunardeau’s crossbar (66th) then, on the next action, Bouabdeli equalized for the Lorraines in two stages following a backheel (1-1, 67th).

At the end of the match, Hacène Benali is very close to the double but his shot hits the crossbar (84th). Red Star had to settle for a draw but still remained firmly in the lead.

“I am very satisfied with the behavior of my boys. We showed a lot of personality in the second half with the desire to win the match until the end, appreciates Habib Beye. It was a tough match. Nancy is not 4th by chance, it is an athletically strong team, playing an offensive game, which deserved the equalizer this evening. For us, the lights are always green for the climb. We will have to win at Cholet (red lantern) next week to have a huge final against Niort, at home, in two weeks. »
