Nathalie Marchetti Clinches Fifth Title in Table Tennis Tournament

“I am relieved, she says. This title is really very special because I still want to qualify for the Olympic Games. Basically, it wasn’t my main objective this season. But it’s also a good nod to the federation. For the past few weeks, I’ve felt like I’m in good shape physically and in my game. I don’t know why, but I felt like I was going to do it.”

In the semi-final, the right-hander had to work until the seventh set to overcome Julie Van Hauwaert, who had taken out Lilou Massart in the quarter-finals. “At 3 sets to 1, I had the match in hand and I lacked a bit of judgment on certain points. In the end, I got through it by being much more aggressive,” explains the person concerned, to the angels.

“I know Margo by heart”

In the final, the Geeroise found her friend Margo Degraef. “This Sunday morning, we said we would meet again during the last match. I know her by heart.” Trailing 3-2, Nathalie Marchetti turned the tide thanks to a mental steel. “I knew that by attacking and being aggressive, I had a chance to win. I took my chance in the beauty and everything worked out” slips 182nd in the world.

A fifth title won in great style which concludes a masterful weekend. This Saturday, the A2 won the gold medal alongside… Margo Degraef. “We’ve known each other for many years. Every time we play together, it works. Our games complement each other.”

In mixed doubles, the Geeroise won silver with François Gobeau. The pair lost in the final against Liégeois Romain Gaspard and Lauranne Hackemack.

Next week, the table tennis player will travel to Slovenia before continuing with the Opens in Germany and the Czech Republic. “I now hope to collect as many points as possible to move up the world rankings.”
