A new MotoGP season is about to start. In total there will be 21 grand prix and 42 races throughout a course that is once again exciting. Among all the new developments in the teams, the main attention is focused on Marc Márquez, who after ending a long and prolific career of eleven years at Repsol Honda, makes his debut this year with the Ducati GP23 of Team Gresini.
Jorge Martín, current runner-up in the world, begins another World Championship in the ranks of Pramac, but determined to secure the jump to the official Ducati team alongside two-time champion Pecco Bagnaia.
Let’s review all the changes and how each team arrives at the World Cup:
Ducati
Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) has a contract for 2024 with Ducati. There is no room for doubt this year. ‘The Beast’ will once again form a duo with Bagnaia, waiting for what happens in 2025
First Pramac
Jorge Martín forms a new pair with Franco Morbidelli after the departure of the Italian-Brazilian from Yamaha. The Frenchman Johann Zarco has left his place in the team.
Gresini Racing
Álex Márquez faces his second season in the team founded by Fausto Gresini and successfully managed by his widow Nadia Padovani. This year the Italian team is in the spotlight with the incorporation of Marc Márquez
Petarina Enduro VR46
Valentino Rossi’s VR46 Racing Team changes colors and sponsors, but also its driver pairing. Marco Bezzecchi continues to lead the formation, but Rossi’s brother, Luca Marini, gave the surprise by signing for the Repsol Honda Team as a replacement for Marc Márquez. In his place comes Fabio Di Giannantonio after giving up his seat in Gresini to ’93’.
Yamaha
Ahead of the British Grand Prix, Yamaha confirmed that Franco Morbidelli would leave the team at the end of the year. And shortly after, Álex Rins (LCR Honda Castrol) was announced as his replacement. So the final lineup for the Iwata brand in 2024 will be composed of 2021 champion Fabio Quartararo and Rins.
Ktm
The official Austrian factory team is closed. Brad Binder and Jack Miller have contracts for 2024, although the latter does not seem to have a guaranteed position in the future.
Tech3 Scratch
Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Augusto Fernández (GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3) will pilot the GASGAS RC16 in 2024 while Pol Espargaró will be entrusted with a reserve and tester role. The ‘Tiburón de Mazarrón’ comes to the team with the Moto2 and Moto3 titles and as the figure with the most projection in the World Championship.
Repsol Honda
For the first time in eleven years, Marc Márquez will not wear the colors of the Repsol Honda Team. Joan Mir has a new teammate, the Italian Luca Marini, who has committed to HRC for two seasons.
LCR Honda
Takaaki Nakagami’s (LCR Honda Idemitsu) contract with HRC ended at the end of 2023, but the Japanese renewed his contract for 2024 and will form a new duo with Johann Zarco.
Aprilia
Aleix Espargaró and Maverick Viñales repeat as the official tanden of the Noale factory in 2024 and again with maximum expectations to continue standing up to the Ducati ‘army’.
Trackhouse Aplilia
The American team arrives to replace the RNF team of Razlan Razali and maintains its pilots Miguel Oliveira and Raúl Fernández, who will repeat the tandem with their respective Aprilia motorcycles.
