In a statement, the private assistance institution reported that the agreement, reached with the mediation of the Ministry of Labor and other authorities, grants the Monte viability to continue its work.

Without giving further details of the agreement, he said that the union must call a vote for the workers to endorse the agreement and, with this, proceed to end the strike.

“Now it remains for the workers to validate this proposal in freedom and full exercise of their rights, to resume work and proceed with the urgent modernization of our Institution,” he highlighted.

In mid-February, Monte de Piedad workers went on strike due to the lack of agreements regarding the collective bargaining contract, which included a salary increase after three years without adjustments.

Then, the institution recognized that it was going through an “economic crisis that would threaten its viability.”

The weak financial situation, explained Monte, is due to various factors: the decrease in one-third of its clients, the drop in the price of metals such as gold and the cost of fulfilling its obligations to workers.

“The labor cost is very high, even the union’s own expertise has shown that there will be an imminent bankruptcy if the labor structure is not modified,” the institution told this newspaper.

The general secretary of the National Union of Employees and Workers of Monte de Piedad, Arturo Zayún González, then rejected that the private assistance institution is bankrupt, since, he assured, it has more than 25 billion pesos in assets and another 15 one billion pesos in goods.

The strike of 2,500 workers led to the closure of more than 300 Monte branches throughout the country, which will reopen once the union votes in favor of the agreement reached between the parties.

“We remain confident that this process, carried out with transparency, will and dialogue with workers, will lead to the consolidation of an agreement that strengthens the future of Nacional Monte de Piedad, its clients and suppliers, and all of Mexican society,” he concluded. the institution.
