Monopoli-Turris: places that deserve more than the low ranking

A very important match in terms of salvation between Monopoli and Turris. It is played on a very pleasant Sunday evening at Venetians and along my route to the stadium, I notice how the environment in the Apulian city has been affected by numerous flyers posted in the previous days along the main roads. The ultimate objective obviously is to bring as many people as possible and fill the stands with fans, and consequently with voices in this very delicate head-to-head in which the three points could give impetus to the two contenders to try to bring Catania closer and get out of the treacherous zone playoffs.

I enter almost close to the kick-off whistle and find an absolutely positive view. The Curva Nord appears to be full and the response from the central grandstand is not bad either. The entry onto the field of the twenty-two challengers is welcomed with a simple yet successful scenography with green-and-white cards at the base, while in the center stands a tarpaulin depicting the head of a seagull, symbol of the club. A few torches thrown in front of the sector have the task of giving that vintage atmosphere lost over the years due to too obtuse legislation that punishes even the simple choreographic use of pyrotechnics.

The North of Monopoli appears well-energised and invigorated by the rest of the crowd which is larger than usual today, offering a decisive, compact and undoubtedly beautiful performance throughout the ninety minutes, despite the fact that the team on the field unfortunately is unable to bring the result this time either. home the three points.

Positioning myself secondly under the guest sector, I find a nice group coming from Torre del Greco, both from a quantitative and qualitative point of view. From the beginning they showed themselves determined to do their part, making themselves heard often and willingly as I happened to perceive them even when I was still under the curve of home. Beautiful slaps, dry chants expertly alternated with more prolonged chants, flags always in the wind, in short, very positive proof of this reality which even in the darkest years of its football association has never skimped on love and support for the cause.

On the pitch, a miserable goalless draw does not definitively kill the ambitions of either of the two, but neither does it help them more than many to get out of the quagmire of this ranking well below the affection and coat of arms of the two places.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the mutual respect between the fans, also highlighted by some chants towards the end of the first half.
