Monk’s Precision Leads Sacramento Kings to Victory Over Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves, leaders of the Western Conference, could have left the Oklahoma City Thunder a little behind, their runner-up in the standings, trapped Thursday by the San Antonio Spurs. But the Minneapolis franchise stumbled on Friday in the NBA regular season, beaten at home by the Sacramento Kings (124-120 AD), ranked eighth and who were left with two defeats.

Monk’s precision in overtime

Each team had its periods. The Californians got off to the best start, ending the first quarter with a gap (30-22). But, at the break, they were only one point ahead (60-59). At the end of the third quarter, Sacramento had regained control (91-82). Once again, the “Wolves” were able to come back to score, taking both teams to overtime (115-115).

In the final seconds of regulation time, Malik Monk, the Kings’ guard, then Karl-Anthony Towns, the Minnesota star, missed the three-point shot that could have won their team. In overtime, Monk’s precision hit the mark this time. The Sacramento player made two long-distance shots which allowed the Californian franchise to leave with the victory.

Monk : 39 points en 33 minutes

Malik Monk (26), who arrived at the Kings two years ago, after spending time with Charlotte and the Lakers, was the great architect of his team’s success. On the bench at the start of the match, he then played 33 minutes and scored 39 points (16/29 shooting including 5/8 three-pointers). Domantas Sabonis signed a new double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds.

In the ranks of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Jaden McDaniels was the most efficient with 26 points. Karl-Anthony Towns scored 19. Rudy Gobert also had a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Finally Anthony Edwards only played half time. He came out at halftime, for personal reasons, after scoring 11 points. The “Wolves” will play again on Saturday, again at home, against the Los Angeles Clippers.
