MMA: Mark Coleman, UFC legend who saved his parents from a fire, comes out of coma

A UFC champion – the first in history, in 1997 – but also a huge hero. Mark Coleman, 59, came out of a coma on Thursday. The former American athlete had inhaled toxic smoke when his parents’ house burned down earlier this week in Ohio. He had passed out after saving his ancestors and then going back inside to rescue their dog, Hammer.

In a video published this Thursday, the champion lets his emotion burst forth from his hospital bed: “I am the happiest man in the world. My God, I am so lucky. I can’t believe my parents are alive. » At his bedside, his two daughters, as moved as their father.

In a sob, Mark Coleman managed to detail the scene of his parents’ rescue. “I had to make a choice. I came out of my room, went to the door, it was horrible. I couldn’t breathe anymore. I had to head out the door and go back to get them. I can’t believe I got them. »

The American received support from everyone in the UFC and his awakening reassured the entire community. Many messages have been published on social networks to salute the courage of Mark Coleman and to wish him a good recovery.
