MLB Players Vote José Ramírez as Most Undervalued Player in the League

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic.─ The specialized reporters for the teams or beat writers, who work at MLB.com, did research work in the different clubhouses, asking the players their opinions on different topics related to the game of ball.

More than 100 players participated anonymously and gave their opinions, among the things that were investigated is the case of the most undervalued players today, and the name of the Dominican José Ramírez occupied the first place shared with the Cuban Yandy Díaz.

Ramírez himself was also considered among the best current players, where Shohei Ohtani was chosen as the best valued by his teammates.

«Mr. La Para »is one of the most consistent players in the Majors in recent years, he has finished in the top 10 for the American League Most Valuable Player award in six of the last seven seasons.

The Cleveland Guardians third baseman has had an OPS above .800, a number that denotes good production since the 2015 season, and has averaged 27 home runs and 25 stolen bases per 162 games he plays in his career.

Major League players understand that the Dominican native of Baní does not receive the recognition he deserves and along with Díaz, he received almost double the votes than any other player.

“I feel like if you put Ramirez in a team in New York or Los Angeles, he would become one of those players that people talk about all the time,” said one American League shortstop.

According to the portal www.baseball-reference.com, Ramírez projects a season of 26 home runs and 90 RBIs, with 23 stolen bases, a .274 batting average and .848 OPS.

In the 2023 campaign, Ramírez hit 24 home runs and drove in 80 runs, stole 28 bases and finished with a .282 batting average and .831 OPS.

Mars in the group

Ketel Marte finished in fifth place, among the most undervalued players in the Majors, among his teammates and colleagues.

Marte is an extremely talented player who performs above accepted standards at second base, shortstop and center field and has been a pillar in the recent success of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

After a below-average season in 2022, he hit 25 home runs with a .843 OPS.

The projection for the 2024 season, according to Baseball Reference, is a .269 batting average, with 19 home runs and 69 RBIs, with seven stolen bases and a .810 OPS. The issue of stolen bases is something that Marte must improve in his game.
