MLB Opening Day 2024: Record Number of International Players on Rosters

NEW YORK, USA─ Major League Baseball announced Friday that a total of 264 players representing countries and territories outside the continental United States were on major league rosters and inactive lists for Opening Day. This is the fourth most in history for the start of a season, only behind 2020 (291, with rosters expanded to 30 players), 2022 (275, with rosters expanded to 28 players) and 2023 (270 , with rosters of 26).

The 264 from 2024 represent 27.8% of the total 949 players on rosters as of March 28.

As has been the case since 1995, when MLB began publishing data on international players in the Major Leagues, the Dominican Republic leads the list with 108 major leaguers, its second most in a year (110 in 2020).

Venezuela is second with 58, followed by Cuba (18).
