The success that the Major Leagues achieved with the Series they held last weekend in the Dominican Republic, facing the Boston Red Sox against the Tampa Bay Rays, left such good feelings that MLB would study returning to the island again in 2025.
Information from the podcast The Dominican Republic Baseball Show, presented by Mike Rodríguez, Commissioner Rob Manfred’s office welcomes the return of Spring Training meetings for next year.
“Breaking News: According to MLB sources, it returns to the DR for 2025 with a match between two National League teams with great and attractive players. The probability that it will be again at the Quisqueya stadium is extremely high.“Rodríguez said through a message on his X account (formerly Twitter).
He later said that names have even been proposed on the table but that in this regard the information is subject to change.
“Team names mentioned: Mets and Phillies but that may change“, he pointed.
It is estimated that there were close to 24,000 fans who were present at the two matches.which ended with Boston being shut out 4-0 in the first match while in the second parity reigned until the Patirrojos third baseman, Bobby Dalbec, hit a dantesque Grand Slam that put the final numbers at 7-6.
The success obtained by MLB in the Dominican Republic had already been previously commented on by the National Commissioner of Baseball in the nation, Junior Noboa, who assured that he met with Manfred and he expressed his joy at holding the exhibition matches and was open to bring American organized baseball back to other stadiums in the country.
“We met for a good time. (Rob) Manfred showed me how much he enjoyed the series, what it became as a country. He is very happy and he told me that he wants more preseason games here,” Noboa said.
Manfred’s project to bring MLB to other regions continues and can be seen this very 2024, with the regular season series in South Korea that The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres will play next March 20 and 21as well as the authorization for the New York Yankees to visit Mexico for a series of two games against the Red Devils on the 24th and 25th of this month.
