MLB Cheerleaders Infuse Korean Baseball Culture into Opening Series

He is in Korea to cover the MLB opening series and the friendly game just before that. The Dodgers and Padres each have four young female cheerleaders. At the time of the attack, they are in the front row of the stands, wearing sexy costumes such as miniskirts and short pants, and dancing to rock and other music. This seems to be a common sight in Korean professional baseball. It is understandable that the opponents Ki-woom, LG, and the Korean national team have cheering squads, but why do MLB teams also have cheerleaders? A question came to mind.

When I asked people involved in the cheering squad at Gocheok Sky Dome, they said that the members were selected from the cheering squads of each professional baseball team because MLB had requested that they “introduce Korean baseball culture.” It took him about a month of practice before he learned to cheer for the Dodgers and Padres.

The Dodgers cheering squad, which includes pitchers Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, usually cheers for Hanwha. This time there are four women and one man, and the man is said to be in charge of Samsung. For the Padres, the women were selected from Kiwoo, whose home base is Gocheok Sky Dome, and the men were selected from KT.

Five teams have appeared so far, including the Korean national team, but there were subtle differences in their costumes. Dodger shows his stomach and wears hot pants. The Korean representative wore a miniskirt and an open look with her belly exposed. The Padres don’t show their bellies and wear hot pants to keep their exposure to a minimum. Ki Woo, who is also a cheerleader, naturally has the same style. The same goes for LG.

Women do not dance in Japanese cheer squads. However, most beer vendors are women. Korean salespeople are only male. These differences in baseball culture, which are a little off-topic, are interesting because they show the colors of each country.[Naoki Saito](Nikkan Sports.com/Baseball column “Naoki Saito’s major stories”)
