Miriam Butkereit Wins Bronze at IJF Competition – Women’s National Coach Praises Performances

Miriam Butkereit (SV Halle – ST) also scores points in this IJF competition. After two gold and one bronze medals in a row, we are still on course for a medal today. She wins the first two fights easily and is now in the pool final. There she fights against the Australian Aoife Coughlan and also makes the fight. “She was never in danger,” says women’s national coach Claudiu Pusa. Except for that one moment when she wasn’t paying attention on the ground. The Australian was fast and held our athlete, although that is actually her specialty. She loses the fight and went to the consolation round. There too she wins confidently against the Slovenian Anka Pogacnik with Waza-ari and Ippon. In the fight for bronze the inevitable happened. Our two top athletes in this weight class met. But here too, Miriam Butkereit solves it confidently and after 26 seconds uses a holding technique from which Giovanna Scoccimarro was no longer able to free herself.

It’s also on the way to the small final Giovanna Scoccimarro (MTV Vorsfelde – NS) performed very confidently. She initially wins three fights with Waza-ari and three Shido for the Greek Elisavet Teltsidov in the quarterfinals after a good seven minutes of fighting time. This puts her in the semi-finals against two-time world champion Barbara Matic. After just 22 seconds she has to give up a waza-ari that she can no longer catch up with. She is therefore in the fight for bronze as already described.

Miriam Butkereit wins bronze, Giovanna Scoccimarro comes fifth. “I am very satisfied with the performances,” said Claudiu Pusa, praising the two athletes.

He also speaks special praise today Dena Pohl (UJKC Potsdam – BB). “In the first fight she won spectacularly against the Russian Ekaterina Minkina.” She then defeated the two-time vice world champion Andreja Leski from Slovenia with ippon after seven and a half minutes.

She also put up a good fight against the Chinese Jing Tang, but had to give up a score and couldn’t catch up. This means she is eliminated one round too early for placement.

The fourth fighter of today, Agatha Schmidt (JC 66 Bottrop – NW) also started with concentration, but then had to admit defeat to the Pole Angelika Szymanska on the floor and was eliminated.

Men today are able to do that Alexander Bernd Gabler (Remscheider TV – NW) fought to the small final. He wins three fights in some spectacular fashion. Only in the pool final does he have to bow to the Russian Karen Galstian with a quick Waza-ari and another Ippon and goes into the consolation round. He defeated the Slovenian Hojak with ippon after six and a half minutes and is in the fight for bronze against the Israeli Tohar Butbul. He loses the fight with two Waza-ari scores and comes fifth in the tournament.

Dominik Ressel (TSV Kronshagen – SH) wins the first two fights easily, but then has to bow to the Azerbaijani Omar Rajabli one round too early for a placement and is eliminated.

Igor Wandtke (JT Hannover – NS) wins his first fight, but then loses and is eliminated.

Timo Cavelius (PTSV Hof – BY) loses the opening fight against the Brit Lachlan Moorhead with a holding technique and is also eliminated.

The upper weight classes will fight on the last day of competition in Tbilisi tomorrow.
