Michiel Kramer has nothing good to say about referee Joey Kooij. The referee played a leading role on Sunday evening during the Eredivisie match between PSV and FC Twente (1-0). Kooij disallowed a goal by the visitors immediately after half-time and gave Twente defender Gijs Smal a yellow card in injury time for wasting time.

Twente came very close to 0-1 early in the second half. Boadu nodded in from a corner from the left; However, his goal was disallowed by Kooij due to alleged interference with Benítez.

Kramer then made himself heard on X. “Joey Kooij, what poverty!”, he wrote with a crying emoji. It is striking that the RKC striker openly expresses such criticism of a KNVB referee.

Kenneth Perez also thought that Kooij made the wrong decision. “If this is not allowed, because Boadu is not actually doing anything wrong,” begins the analyst at ESPN’s This Was the Weekend. “Walter Benítez actually comes out too weak or wrong, which makes him unbalanced. He is not really pushed or anything, this is so light.”

“Kooij stands between five players looking at the moment and after five seconds he decides: I’m going to blow the whistle for this,” said Perez, who then made a harsh judgment about the referee.

“It’s really a very bad referee,” says the analyst. “On top of that, he also has a very bad appearance. Joey Kooij just irritates everything and everyone around football. He makes very crazy decisions.”

“During injury time in the second half, he started to act very tough. Gijs Smal received a yellow card because he took a little longer to take a throw-in. He added a minute for that. That is really tough.”
