Austria can look forward to another Judo Grand Slam gold medal in the 2024 Olympic year. Polleres, Olympic silver medalist and currently number seven in the world rankings, beat 19-year-old Tais Pina from Portugal with ippon in the gold final on Saturday. For the 26-year-old from Lower Austria, it is the second victory at Grand Slam level after Tashkent last year.

Overall, Polleres has two gold and four bronze medals in Grand Slam tournaments. Reward: 1,000 points for the world rankings and Olympic qualification for Paris. “The longer the day lasted, the more confident Michaela became. She was the clear number one today,” said ÖJV sports director Markus Moser.

Judoka Michaela Polleres secured Austria’s second Grand Slam gold medal in the Olympic year in Antalya.

Krssakova in fifth place

Magdalena Krssakova (up to 63 kg), who registered for the first time in the Olympic year, also presented herself strongly. The 30-year-old Viennese only had to admit defeat in the final for third place to the number two seeded Japanese Miku Takaichi with Ippon and took fifth place.

“Magda sold herself impressively in Antalya. In the bronze fight, the two-time vice world champion Takaichi was simply better, that has to be acknowledged,” said Moser. Piovesana remained unplaced in Antalya, as did Bernd Fasching (81 kg), Samuel Gaßner and Lukas Reiter (both 73 kg), who all failed in their opening fight.
