The draw for the Masters 1000 in Miami was made this Monday, and placed Carlos Alcaraz in the same part of the draw as Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner in that of Daniil Medvedev.

Last year, Daniil Medvedev won the Miami Masters 1000 by beating Jannik Sinner in the final. This year, that cannot be the case, because the draw carried out this Monday placed the Russian and the Italian in the same part of the table, the bottom one. In the absence of Novak Djokovic, it is Carlos Alcaraz, world No. 2 and winner of the Masters 1000 on Sunday, who will be seeded No. 1 in Florida. The Spaniard will begin his tournament against the winner of Vukic-Carballes Baena, before a possible third round against Gaël Monfils or Borna Coric. If logic is respected, Alcaraz will then challenge Ben Shelton in the round of 16, Grigor Dimitrov or Hubert Hurkacz in the quarters, and Alexander Zverev or Holger Rune in the semis.

Six Blues in the big picture at the moment

World No. 3 Jannik Sinner will start against the Argentinian Cachin or a qualifier, then possibly continue against Griekspoor, before a trap round of 16 against Tommy Paul. Stefanos Tsitsipas or Andrey Rublev could then wait for him in the quarters, then Daniil Medvedev (who will start against Purcell or Fucsovics before playing, if logic is respected, Norrie then Humbert) in the semis. While six French people are entered in qualifying, six enter directly into the table. Ugo Humbert will, a priori, be our best chance, as the No. 14 seed, but he will have to be wary of Sebastian Baez in the third round if the two men reach this stage of the competition. Adrian Mannarino (n°19) could quickly face Dimitrov, as in Indian Wells. Alexandre Muller and Luca Van Assche could challenge Alex De Minaur and Casper Ruud respectively in the second round. Arthur Fils will begin his tournament against Matteo Arnaldi, who took a set from Alcaraz in Indian Wells.

Garcia vs. Svitolina or Osaka in the third round?

On the women’s side, the draw was made on Sunday and Iga Swiatek could have to face Jessica Pegula in the quarters and Coco Gauff in the semis in the upper part of the table. At the bottom, Aryna Sabalenka could challenge the one she beat in the final in Melbourne, Qinwen Zheng, in the quarters, then Maria Sakkari or Elena Rybakina (finalist last year) in the semis. Pregnant, title holder Petra Kvitova is out. Four French women are present in the main draw: Caroline Garcia exempt from the first round and possibly opposed to Elina Svitolina or Naomi Osaka in the third; Clara Burel, who will have a tough start against Caroline Wozniacki; Diane Parry, who could face Beatriz Haddad Maia in the second round; and Varvara Gracheva, possibly facing Iga Swiatek in the third round.
