Meeting Sports Stars: The ‘Today I Train with…’ Project by Polisportiva San Mamolo

The project conceived by the Polisportiva San Mamolo for spring 2024, with the contribution of the Fondazione del Monte di Bologna and Ravenna and Emilbanca, is called “Today I train with…”. It is a series of meetings with sports personalities, who from time to time will guide the children of the various sections of society in training sessions, enriching their growth with significant technical knowledge without neglecting the importance of the moral values ​​transmitted by sports practice.

The program of meetings will start on Monday 18 March, when in the historic gym in via San Mamolo 139, right under the parish of SS Francesco Saverio and Mamolo, the young basketball players born between 2013 and 2015 will be guided by GIULIO GAZZOTTI, whose talent developed within San Mamolo, and then developed (after his debut in Serie A with Virtus Bologna) on the parquets of the top flight and Serie A2. On Wednesday 20 March, the kids from the judo section will experience the thrill of being face to face with ANAYSI HERNANDEZ, Olympic silver medalist in Beijing 2008 in the 70 kg category. and world bronze in 2001 in Munich. The first week of events will continue on Friday 22 March, again for the young basketball players, with the arrival of ALESSANDRO PIAZZA, a point guard from the Fortitudo school who, after having been part of all the national youth representatives, has collected years of high-level basketball in Serie A and A2, ending on Sunday 24 March with the modern dance lesson by ROSANNA BROCANELLO, artistic director of the Opus Ballet Company and soul of Opus Ballet International Dance and Entertainment Center.

On Friday 5 April, CARLOTTA SGARZI will lead an intense rhythmic gymnastics training session. Carlotta trained in the youth teams of San Mamolo, then moving on to competitive sports with SG Fortitudo, until taking part in various national championships with Putinati Ferrara. On Wednesday 17 April we will return to the parquet with ALESSANDRO ABBIO, who as a player with the colors of Virtus won three championships, four Italian Cups, an Italian Super Cup and two editions of the Champions Cup, then Euroleague, in 1998 and 2001, the year of the Great Slam from Virtus (and who was responsible for the youth sector of the black V from 2020 to 2022), but also a great protagonist in the national team with 150 appearances and a gold (1999) and a silver (1997) won at the European Championships.

Again, the historic basketball section of San Mamolo will host in the months of April and May, on dates currently being defined, two other protagonists of the BasketCity epic: AUGUSTO “GUS” BINELLI, who played for Virtus for 17 seasons, with 564 appearances and winning five league titles, five Italian Cups, the 1998 Champions Cup, the 1990 Cup Winners’ Cup and a Super Cup, and ROBERT FULTZ, son of the unforgettable John, who grew up at Fortitudo, protagonist of important seasons in the top Italian leagues and 17 times blue.
