Meet Lily Deschamps: Rising Star in Archery

Three questions to…

Lily Deschamps, 13 years old, member of the Archers de la Rance and bronze medalist at the regional youth shooting championship, at the beginning of February.

What brought you to archery?

We had just moved. I had practiced karate and a little judo and I had forgotten that archery existed.

I discovered this sport in middle school when we had to mime sports. A friend mimed archery, I wanted to try and I took advantage of an open day at the club. I started in September 2021, with Yvan Cessou as coach and it’s really thanks to him that I’m here! He encouraged me to start competing in my first year.

Is archery a family affair?

My mother, who had already practiced archery a little, took up it at the same time as me and, since this year, my father has taken up it too. Archery is ideal for relaxing and clearing your head because you have to concentrate.

How did you experience these competitions?

Last year, I was disappointed with my results, but it was a good experience. This year, the departmental competition in Liffré was complicated because it was very cold in the room; we had to shoot while keeping the coats, but I kept in mind that I had to make my points. I preferred the regional competition which took place in Loudéac (Côtes-d’Armor), over two days: the first day, it was the qualifications and I beat my personal scores; the next day, I made it to the semi-final then to the small final. So next year I hope to go national.
