Mechelen Dominates Westerlo with 3-1 Victory: KaVé in Champions Playoffs Position

In the standings, KaVé is provisionally in the Champions Playoffs with fifth place (45 points) while Westerlo remains 11th (29 points) three lengths from the red zone.

It only took Mechelen ten minutes to find the net and open the scoring. In a very confusing phase in the rectangle after a ball sent by Rob Schoofs towards the penalty spot, Kerim Mrabti played on the surface and slightly deflected the ball which deceived Sinan Bolat (11th, 1-0).

Just before the end of the first half, Mechelen doubled their lead. Served by Islam Slimani to be face-to-face with Bolat, Mrabti was a little lucky since he shot with a supporting foot but the ball still ended up in the back of the net ( 37th, 2-0).

In the second half, Westerlo had a huge opportunity, following a great collective movement, but Griffin Yow’s shot went right past Gaetan Coucke’s goal (57th). It was ultimately KaVé who found the net and made the break in this meeting.

Approaching the last quarter of an hour, Patrick Pflucke, who thanked Nikola Storm for his self-sacrifice at the moment of the decisive pass, scored the third and final goal of a match in which Mechelen showed efficiency ( 73rd, 3-0).

At the very end of the match, Jordan Bos scored the consolation goal for Westerlo with a long shot which ended in the top corner (90th, 3-1).
