Max Eberl: Max Bayern Great Again

Max Eberl is one of the most successful managers in German football. Now he is supposed to inherit Uli Hoeneß. That will be difficult because he has a gap in his CV.

When Max Eberl introduced himself to the press in Munich this week, he was asked about his past. A good two years ago he wanted to sign Xabi Alonso for Borussia Mönchengladbach. The coach thought the offer was good, Eberl said, but it just came too early. Alonso canceled.

Eberl had no luck with his idea, but it was excellent. Not many would have thought of it back then, Alonso didn’t have much to show as a coach at the time. Today the Spaniard rules the Bundesliga and Bayern envy Bayer Leverkusen for him.
