Matteo Jorgenson has heard and seen it all. First the light touch at 80 km/h, then the crash. Wheels colliding and sliding across the asphalt. Drivers flying through the air and hitting the road. A chain reaction.
When the mass crash occurs in the one-day race “Across Flanders”, Jorgenson is on the rear wheel of his teammate Wout van Aert, who is one of the first to fall. Jorgenson can still dodge. But almost all of the favorites get hit: van Aert, Biniam Girmay and Jasper Stuyven have to be transported away in the ambulance. Mads Pedersen does not finish the race.
