Matera-Manfredonia: discontent spreads among the Sassi

The match between Matera and Manfredonia has been missing for exactly ten years, the last precedent in fact dates back to the last day of the 2013/14 championship, when the Lucanians, in the last match of the championship, achieved promotion to Serie C, at the expense of Taranto is only two points away in the standings. The two teams meet again this time in group H of Serie D, with the need to score points for two different ambitions: Matera to return to the play-off zone while Manfredonia to stay furthest from the bottom of the table.

On a Sunday afternoon already in the spring weather, there were over a thousand spectators present in the stands of the XXI September – Franco Salerno. The boys from the south take their places in the corner fifteen minutes after kick-off to contest the current corporate management; after entering the sector, they demonstrate their discontent by displaying some banners and then immediately start cheering. The cheering reaches excellent levels straight away and also noteworthy are the successful clapping and the numerous lit torches, which provide a nice sight; the varied repertoire of long choruses alternates with dry choruses and repeating choruses, also accompanied by the drum. In the second half the support continues as in the first half of the game, with slightly more prolonged handclapping and some rhythmic trains with the drum. For the entire ninety minutes, overall the sector appeared well animated while from a chromatic point of view it was colored by the usual flags.

About a hundred fans arrive from the Gargano in the Città dei Sassi following Manfredonia and position themselves in the center of the away sector. The time to gather and attack the balustrade pieces that begin even before the match begins to cheer to push your favorites onto the pitch. The scarf made before the kick-off was beautiful and in addition to the support of the eleven on the green rectangle, they also sang some chants against their rivals from Barletta.

In the first half they display a banner, followed by a long applause capable of involving the whole stadium, to remember Dino Della Torre, the historic Manfredonia goalkeeper who also wore the Matera shirt from 1994 to 1996, who passed away five years ago but evidently never forgotten.

In the second half, despite the heavy score, the blue-whites remain compact and continue to sing chants, accompanied with the drum while the arms raised during the chants are also able to give a nice visual effect. In the last moment of the second half, given that the match on the pitch does not change direction and no longer offers many emotions, there is also room for a moment of joking, when they line up and set off with a train up and down the sector.

On the pitch the match ends with a score of 4-0 for the locals, who win their second victory within friendly walls and reach fifth place in the standings, while the guests, despite the defeat, manage to stay out of the play out zone.
