Master Coach Anton Gavel’s Potential Move to Baskets Bamberg Leaves Ulm Looking for a Successor

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but various media are reporting on the upcoming move from Ulm’s master coach Anton Gavel (39) to Baskets Bamberg, where he has already celebrated success as a player. This leaves Gavel’s position in Ulm vacant. On Saturday, the Ulm-based “Südwest Presse” also brought Daniel Jansson from the Tigers Tübingen into play as a possible successor candidate for Gavel. The 44-year-old Finn came to Tübingen in 2020 from Ulm, where he was previously an assistant coach in the Bundesliga for a year and before that in the youth ranks for five years.

However, when asked by TAGBLATT, Jansson asserted that he had not spoken to Ulm officials Thomas Stoll or Thorsten Leibenath in the past few days. “I had no contact with Ulm,” says Jansson, who signed a one-year, non-league extension with the Tigers in December. “As long as Real Madrid don’t come and buy me out for a million, I’ll stay here,” he says. “I’m trying to keep this club in the league and build on that next season.”

The top favorite to succeed Gavel is probably the American Ty Harrelson (43), who led Rasta Vechta to the Bundesliga as champions last year, is currently in fifth place and announced his departure in the summer.
