A 37 year old, Marie Boussière, from the Compagnie d’Arc d’Abbeville (Somme), has just won the title of French barebow champion. A result that rewards his work.
- To begin with, what is a bare bow?
It is a bow on which there is only a handle and a string. We have no viewfinder.
- What is the main difficulty in using this bow?
Since we do not have a viewfinder, we must always follow the same gesture to be as close as possible to the middle of the target. It’s the only time and it’s a gesture that we constantly repeat in training.
Archery is a family affair.

- How many meters are you from the target?
Indoors, we shoot at 18 meters. It’s 50 outdoors.

- How did you come to this sporting discipline?
It’s a family story. When I was younger, I didn’t want to do it. For me it was too quiet. I needed this to move. I played handball while in goal and then horse riding. It was only a few years later that I naturally returned to this discipline.

- With the success that we know of you and this title of champion of France?
I’ve been waiting for it for so long. In addition, I injured myself before the competition in training. I was hit in the right shoulder. The first duel, I wasn’t there. It was complicated. So, I told myself that I was there to have fun. We’ll see where this takes me.
- How did you feel when you realized the title was for you?
This title is nothing but happiness. At the penultimate arrow, I told myself that even if I missed it, I would finish second. But I absolutely wanted this title. I wanted to finish first. When I saw that my last arrow was good, I collapsed in the arms of my coach, who is none other than my mother. She never won this title.

- Do you think that through this title, she is also champion of France?
No, I do not think so. Especially since she is titled at the national, European and world level in outdoor shooting.
- With Paris 2024, French archers will have more visibility like at every Olympics?
There are a lot of sports that we don’t talk about. It’s up to us to do it to make ourselves known and attract new shooters. This can also be done via the Internet. Young people are very present there.
- What three words could you say to attract them to come practice?
Passion, concentration and conviviality.
- Do your two boys, Gabriel and Mathis, have the same attraction as you for archery?
Gabriel, who is 8 years old, is not much like me at the same age. He wants things to change. As for Mathis, 5 years old, he shoots whenever he can.
