The DFB sports court has suspended Dortmund’s midfield star Marcel Sabitzer (29) for two Bundesliga games after the red card in Bremen.
The Austrian will therefore not be available to BVB for the upcoming home game against Frankfurt (Sunday, 5.30 p.m.) or the away game in Munich (30 March, 6.30 p.m.). The Dortmund team had hoped in vain for a lighter punishment.

Sports director Sebastian Kehl (44) said after the win at Werder: “It’s not a completely wrong decision, it’s a bit tough. I’m assuming it won’t be a long sentence. For me it wasn’t a red card like you’ve seen so many times before.”

In the 2-1 win last weekend, referee Deniz Aytekin sent Sabitzer off in stoppage time in the first half because he kicked Bremen’s Weiser in the leg from behind during the duel (45th + 1st).

The verdict in full: “The sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) has suspended Marcel Sabitzer from the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund from two championship games in the licensed leagues in a single-judge proceeding following an indictment by the DFB control committee for rough play against the opponent.
