Man Faces Prosecution for Attempted Murder in Gas Station Incident: Requests Release

A 45-year-old man is being prosecuted for attempted murder, after deliberately hitting his ex-wife’s companion, in July 2023, at the E. Leclerc gas station in Fleury-les-Aubrais. He requested his release before the investigating chamber.

An unfortunate coincidence, a chance encounter at the E. Leclerc gas station in Fleury-les-Aubrais which turns into a tragedy. On the night of July 24 to 25, 2023, around 1 a.m., the police were informed that a man had just been deliberately hit by a car, driven by his partner’s ex-husband. The latter asked to regain his freedom before the investigating chamber on Thursday March 14.

Helped by images from video surveillance cameras and various testimonies, investigators reconstruct the scene. That night, the victim was accompanied by a woman and two men. They are refueling their car, a Renault Clio. Mohamed Y. arrives at the wheel of his Renault Scénic, passes slowly alongside the group. His ex-wife’s new partner, born in 1996, waves to him.

The victim dragged several meters

The motorist parks a few meters away and gets out of his vehicle, in which his daughter is seated. The tone rises between the two men, blows are given to Mohamed Y. An object thrown by the victim in the direction of the father of the family is said to have inflamed the conflict. There is also talk of threats with a baseball bat. Until impact.

The 45-year-old driver, who got back into his car, rushed towards the young man. The latter landed on the bumper, his head on the windshield, before falling and remaining stuck under the rocker panel of the Scénic. The forty-year-old accelerates, drags the victim several meters and flees. He was arrested an hour later, as he returned to his home.

The twenty-year-old suffers from a double fracture of the pelvis and numerous bruises are noted on his lower limbs, with significant psycho-affective repercussions. His total incapacity for work is set at 45 days by the doctors.

“I was afraid for my daughter”

Examined by experts, Mohamed Y. was empathetic and expressed his regrets. He maintains that he acted “in order to protect himself and his daughter”.

“My intention was to get gas and go to Paris with my daughter. He ordered me to come see him and asked the two men to bring a baseball bat. He punched me , I told my daughter to call 17. It was a moment of life. I was afraid for her,” he justified.

Prosecuted for attempted murder, he was held in pre-trial detention at the Orléans-Saran penitentiary center while awaiting his trial.
