Man dies at Hockenheimring during Racefoxx 1000 KM

There was a fatal motorcycle accident at the Hockenheimring on Holy Saturday. As part of the “Racefoxx 1000 Kilometers” long-distance race, a 21-year-old motorcyclist fell and died “due to his serious injuries,” according to a police statement. “No information can yet be given” about the cause of the accident.

According to the police, the Mannheim traffic service started the investigation and “tried to reconstruct the fall with the involvement of an expert.”

Rescue helicopter in action

After the racing accident, the police and emergency services were deployed with a large contingent and a rescue helicopter. The 1000 kilometer (271 lap) race was stopped immediately after the crash. The other events on Saturday were also canceled.

The 1000-kilometer race at the Hockenheimring is aimed at professionals and amateurs. It is part of the German Endurance Cup (DLC) and, according to the organizers, is considered the start of the motorcycle racing season. The pilots compete in the Superbike, Supersport and Endurance classes. The participating teams consist of three riders who, depending on the class, start with one or more motorcycles.

The organizers of the race are the German Motorsport Association, the Baden Motorsport Club Hockenheim, the Rheintal Motorsport Club and the DLC. The next DLC race is scheduled for mid-May at the Nürburgring.
