Magellan Judoka Wins Gold Medal at Araucanía Games, Judo Shines as Main Discipline for Magallanes

The Magellan judoka Rafael Romo won the first gold medal for Magallanes by beating the representative of the Los Ríos region, Luis Parra in the 73 to 90 kilo category. Meanwhile, judoka Joselyne Cárdenas gave the region a bronze medal in the women’s 63 to 78 kg category.

With these results, Judo becomes, until now, the main discipline of Magallanes in the Araucanía games that are held in the Lakes region. Where today at 4 p.m. the second day of competitions will begin with high expectations for local athletes.

The regional director of the National Sports Institute, Francisco Herrera, pointed out that these medals are “an achievement of the arduous preparation that the athletes have had in recent times and the support that the IND has given, supporting them through the High Performance Center in Santiago and the regional Training Center that is in Punta Arenas.”

Today again the various disciplines begin to compete in the Los Lagos region, highlighting women’s basketball that will play against Bío-Bío first thing in the morning and in the afternoon against Neuquén. Soccer will be played in Osorno at 10:30 am against the representative of La Pampa. In cycling, 100 kilometers are run on the road.
