With the celebration of this championship, one of the great global events of the World Tour, the capital will become, between March 26 and 31, the headquarters of the best international sport by receiving leading badminton figures from 40 countries, including which includes the Olympic champion Carolina Marín.

The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, received today the Spanish player Carolina Marín at the Cibeles Palace in the company of the president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco, and the president of the Spanish Badminton Federation, Andoni Azurmendi.

The presentation ceremony was also attended by the Spanish athletes who will participate in the tournament: Pablo Abián, Kike Peñalver, Clara Azurmendi, Paula López, Lucía Rodríguez, Carlos Piris and Rubén García, as well as the general coordinator of the Mayor’s Office, Inmaculada Sánchez-Cervera, authorities of the Higher Sports Council, LaLiga and sponsors.

The Gallur Municipal Sports Center, inaugurated in 2016 and with capacity for 3,000 people, has hosted since its opening all the international badminton competitions that have taken place in the capital and this year, as a novelty, a giant screen has been installed 30 square meters located in the competition area. This municipal center hosts the celebration of this championship for the second year, which on this occasion exceeds the number of participants from the previous edition, with 339 international athletes.

The Madrid Spain Masters, which will be broadcast on TVE, is an event included in the HSBC BWF World Tour, a top-level world circuit of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) with five event categories and which grants the Spanish federation its organization up to at least the year 2027.

After the success of the European Championship held in 2022 in Madrid and the celebration of the Spain Master in 2023, the capital has become one of the main badminton cities worldwide.
