Madison Haley Leads Brighton to Victory with Late Winner

Madison Haley got Brighton back into the encounter four minutes after being introduced as a substitute

Brighton came from behind to beat Leicester in a thrilling Women’s Super League contest at King Power Stadium.

The result lifts Mikey Harris’ side to eighth in the WSL table, a point and a place above the Foxes.

Jutta Rantala put the hosts in front but Madison Haley equalised and Katie Robinson then added Brighton’s second.

In a frantic finale Lena Petermann levelled for Leicester before Elisabeth Terland scored the winner for the Seagulls one minute later.

While Leicester and assistant boss Jennifer Foster, who is currently taking charge of the team in the absence of Willie Kirk will be aggrieved to have come away without even a point after a much-improved second-half display, Brighton will also feel they merited their victory.

The visitors were adventurous in their approach and Greece winger Veatriki Sarri spurned two glorious opportunities to provide Harris’ side with a healthy half-time lead.

Then when they were forced to battle back into the game after Rantala smashed an effort past Sophie Baggaley at her near post after being superbly picked out by Japan forward Yuka Momiki, they showed their resilience.

American striker Haley bundled in a response four minutes after her introduction as a substitute as home goalkeeper Lize Kop struggled to claim a bouncing ball.

And when Robinson raced round Kop to tap into an empty net the turnaround looked to be complete.

The influential Momiki turned supplier again with Germany forward Petermann’s composed finish into the bottom corner seemingly enough to secure a draw for Leicester, but Haley and Terland combined to secure a deserved three points for Brighton.
