Madagascar Wins Another Medal at the African Games: Bronze for Judokate Natacha Razafindrakalo Ralevazaha

Antananarivo, March 13, 6:15 a.m. – One more medal for Madagascar at the African Games. Judokate Natacha Razafindrakalo Ralevazaha won a bronze medal in the women’s under 48 kg category on Tuesday evening. She won her fight in the bronze final against the Egyptian Noura Ahmed Salem.

After beating her first opponent, the Burundian Alimata Sanfo by ippon, she was beaten in the quarter-finals by the reigning African champion, the Tunisian Oumaima Bedioui. She then returned to the repechage, beating Botswana’s Babutsi Botho by ippon.

The second Malagasy to enter the tatami on Tuesday did not go far. Angelo Rakotonandrasana, in the men’s under 60 kilo category, was eliminated after his first fight, beaten by the Botswanan Phutego Tumiso.

The other Malagasy judo fighters are expected this Wednesday. Laura Rasoanaivo in the category of less than 70 kilos for women, Fetra Ranaivoarisoa in the category of less than 81 kilos for men and Lova Mahaisoa Randrianasolo in the category of less than 73 kilos for men.

With the bronze medal won by Natacha Razafindrakalo Ralevazaha, Madagascar has a total of 12 medals but falls one place to seventh on the medal table. The Big Island still has three gold medals, two silver medals and seven bronze medals.
