On Sunday, “Jēkabpils lynxes” had the opportunity to conclude the semi-final series of the Latvian volleyball championship. It was only necessary to beat the old opponents “RTU/ Border Guard/ Jūrmala” on the road. In the first match of the series in the “lynx” den, the Jēkabpilians won 3:1.
The first set in Jurmala started and continued point by point. In the end, the guests reached 23:20, but won only with 27:25. The second set went with the advantage of the hosts, and they won with 25:16. In the third set, “lynxes” took the lead with 10:5, but still lost with 22:25. In the fourth set, there was nowhere to back down – after 22:22, three points were won in a row and the victory was won with 25:22. The fifth set, however, lacked strength and power. The Jēkabpilians were in the lead with 7:5 and 8:7, but at 9:10 the seasiders scored four points in a row, causing the guests to lose in the set with 10:15 and in the match – with 2:3. For the losers, Jānis Medenis scored 22, Eduards Stieľelis – 12, and Jānis Jansons and Zigurds Adamovičs – 10 points each. Matīss Gabdulins was the most productive in the opposing team with 24 points.
In the series up to two wins, the result became a draw 1:1. The decisive match will take place in Jēkabpils on March 27 at 20.00
The second semi-final series will not start until tomorrow. In it, “Ezerzeme/DU” will compete with “VK Piejūra/MSĘ”, which took only 7th place in the main tournament of the National League. According to the rules of the championship, Daugavpils had to compete in the semi-finals with the winner of the main tournament of the National League (“Upper Daugava”), but if they refuse, then with the following teams. Apparently, the six best teams have refused, and the seventh will play in the semi-finals of the Latvian championship. This does not bode well for the level of the championship.
