Former professional road cyclists Luis León ‘Luisle’ Sánchez and Haimar Zubeldia will compete as a couple in the Vuelta a Ibiza MTB SCOTT by Shimano, which starts on March 29 and which they face with enthusiasm and the ambition to fight for victory.
“The Vuelta a Ibiza MTB SCOTT by Shimano has just confirmed a truly luxurious couple. It is made up of Luis León Sánchez and Haimar Zubeldia, great names in national cycling, who will run the tour together in stages,” the organization announced.
After putting an end to his career as a professional in 2023, with more than 20 seasons under his belt, ‘Luisle’ Sánchez faces this Vuelta a Ibiza on a mountain bike after good mountain bike preparation.
“I am very happy to be in this edition of the Vuelta a Ibiza, because it is a great opportunity to meet friends from my professional stage. Many have been teammates and rivals, and it is a great satisfaction to be able to be with them again. It is an opportunity to be in Ibiza in a different situation, to have a first contact with the island and its most difficult terrain,” Sánchez acknowledged.
Sánchez won four stages of the Tour de France, in addition to his overall triumphs in Paris-Nice, the Tour Down Under and the Vuelta a la Región de Murcia, in addition to being five-time Spanish road champion.
He will be paired with Haimar Zubeldia, who competed in 29 ‘Grandes’ (between Tour, Giro and Vuelta) in his professional stage and who, already in his mountain bike stage, a few months ago competed against ‘Ibizan’ Enrique Morcillo for the Titan Desert in Saudi Arabia.
