Lotte Kopecky Aims to Make History at Gent-Wevelgem

The women’s world champion also wants to do what the rainbow jersey does for men: build up an honors list that is as diverse as possible. Lotte Kopecky (28) wants to win Gent-Wevelgem for the first time today. “I feel like I’m getting fresher day after day,” it sounds promising.

Lotte Kopecky came 2nd in Gent-Wevelgem in 2020 and 2021. In the meantime, Kopecky has only gotten stronger and so she is of course one of the top favorites for this classic.

“If my legs are good and if the scenario lends itself to it, then I will certainly not hold back,” she said at the start this afternoon.

“I would really like to tick the boxes and this course is certainly one of them. But I still have a few years to do it.”

“Today we will race and see where we end up. It is certainly nice to have Lorena Wiebes within our team. She is getting better and better over the slopes.”

One week before the Tour of Flanders and two weeks before Paris-Roubaix, we don’t hear Kopecky complaining.

“My form is good and I feel like I’m getting fresher day after day. Even if the feeling isn’t great today, I still don’t have to worry about next week.”
