Los Angeles Clippers’ Dilemma: Will Paul George Follow Kawhi Leonard’s Lead?

Since his arrival to the Los Angeles Clippers ownership, Steve Ballmer has not exactly been known for skimping on expenses. He demonstrated it again last February when he signed Kawhi Leonard’s three-year, $149 million extension. A player who will turn 33 in less than a hundred days and with a recent, and not so recent, history of injuries that would make anyone capsize. Once the signature was signed with the former Spurs and Raptors player, it seemed a matter of time before Paul George and James Harden did the same. However, it seems that the franchise’s position is quite far from what the player maintains.

George’s agents have been testing the waters for the renovation for a couple of months now, wanting to bring it closer to the one agreed upon by Leonard. But, as revealed The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Clippers would be offering a lower amount in money and, probably, duration. The forward’s contract ends at the end of this season, and he has a player option worth $48.7 million for next year. This would have caused the player’s environment to be offered to other franchises, including the Philadelphia Sixers.

The idea would be to decline his player option to explore free agency or repeat James Hadrden’s move last year with the Sixers themselves. That is, accept the option and force the transfer.
