Local Judokas Shine at 42nd Tournament of the City of Saint-Dizier

During the 42nd tournament of the City of Saint-Dizier, Saturday March 16 and Sunday March 17, at the Dojo de La Noue, more than 300 participants will compete. With good chances for the locals, seniors and young people.

This Saturday March 16 and Sunday March 17, the 42nd international tournament of the City of Saint-Dizier is taking place, at the Dojo de La Noue. An emblematic event which will bring together 250 judokas, Saturday, senior day, Sunday being reserved for youth categories (minors, cadets). “The motto of the club is above all to have mass and life in our structure. This is why fights with colored belts are scheduled,” explains Francis Clerget, one of the organizers within the Marnaval/Saint-Dizier 52 club.

On Saturday, 43 veterans, 34 colored belts, 60 senior women and 110 senior boys will be on the playing surfaces. For the girls, Mélanie Legoux-Clément, who returned to international competition at the Paris tournament, will be there, in preparation for the Grand Prix of Tbilisi (Georgia), in two weeks, in -52 kg. There will also be Nawaliatou Babio, in -57 kg, who will have to return to the semi-finals with his training at the gendarmerie school. Without forgetting, among the boys, Aloïs and Gwendal Lebel.

On Sunday, there will be 200 juniors and 150 cadets, some of whom are in Haute-Marne to prepare for the French championships. “We will see if the young people playing in Elite and who have the international level in their sights will be there. The French cadet championships 2nd and 3rd division take place in two weeks. The minors are not yet international” relates the Marnavalais coach, Francis Clerget.

For Marnaval, the best chances in cadets are Inès Ouali, Emma Gozillon, Alyssa Atamna, all in the Top 2 of the Grand Est championship, last weekend, or even Cédric Multon Mpala, cadet “2”, one of the best French. In the juniors, Gustave Coquin and Dorian Charpentier, who will participate in “France” in two weeks, will defend the Marnaval colors.

Around a hundred clubs present in Saint-Dizier

In all, 350 judokas are expected at La Noue, in this nationally certified tournament, even if we must count on around 30% forfeits. “The Federation should require payment before the event. We no longer have a tournament in the region,” complains Francis Clerget. Around a hundred clubs (Grand Est, Paris region, Burgundy Franche-Comté) plus a few foreigners (Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium) are taking part in bragarde land over the two days.

“Our goal is to have a great local competition, where the department’s judokas can participate, parents can see their children perform at home and our 90 volunteers are there for the various events of the weekend,” concludes the leader, who created the tournament, in a small committee, at the Marnaval village hall, in the early 1980s.

Axel Clerget, who recently learned of his non-selection for the Paris Games, will not be present. But there is no doubt that spectators will be able to appreciate the Marnavalais fights this Saturday and Sunday.
