Ligue 1: Lorient-PSG moved to April 24 to promote the preparation of Parisians in the Champions League

PSG will have six full days to prepare for their Champions League quarter-final second leg against FC Barcelona.

While the capital club was due to travel to Lorient on the weekend of April 13-14, for the 29th day of Ligue 1, a meeting located between its two confrontations with the Spanish club, the Professional Football League decided, this Thursday, to postpone this trip to Wednesday April 24 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be broadcast on Prime Video.

This measure was taken by the LFP in order to help Kylian Mbappé’s partners in their preparation for the meeting on Catalan soil scheduled for April 16. Respectively involved in the Europa League and the Europa Conference League, OM, opposed to Benfica, and Lille, who will face Aston Villa, benefited from the same preferential treatment and will play their Ligue 1 match on the same day as PSG.

“The progress of French clubs in European Cups is an absolute priority. All points scored are fundamental for France’s UEFA coefficient, explains the body in a press release. In this context, the LFP Board of Directors decided this Thursday, March 21 to adjust the schedule of the three clubs qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League (Paris Saint-Germain), the Europa League (Olympique de Marseille) and Europa Conference League (Lille) and thus put them in the best position for the quarter-finals. »

Luis Enrique’s men will host Clermont on Saturday April 6 at 9 p.m. at the Parc des Princes. They will therefore continue with two consecutive matches against FC Barcelona, ​​on April 10 in Paris and April 16 at the Montjuïc Stadium. If they qualify, they will face Borussia Dortmund or Atlético de Madrid.

According to our information, the postponement was notably obtained after an intervention by Nasser Al-Khelaïfi during the League’s CA. He then sent a word of thanks to Vincent Labrune, president of the LFP, and to the members of the CA to thank them for having granted his request.
